the expression is in full, "what a ripper" (taught to me by Nev, a comon Aussie term apparently) meaning fantastic!... Not a "rip off", my reference to Campbells work is that he is famous for cloud hidden sunset rays setting over his sea scapes. I shall choose my words more carefully in future or more safely not at all.

This is a gorgeous image, he says in the most careful way that his poor English allows. mal

Being Dutch born, my first thougth of 'RIPPER' is also ...stealing... these things we do not learn in school, it is so hard to know the difference in the meanings, I have to write them down not to get confused, I am glad Mal made it clear, and I never think he meant bad, he has always a kind word for everybody, but language-differences CAN be dangerous, I know.......

My Mum never ceases to amaze me. She's quite a star, she sets the record for the longest lasting liver transplant at the specialist hospital in Birmingham. 19 years come July this year. Back in those early days, no one would predict longer than 10 years! Not only that, she underwent a double heart by-pass operation some years ago. She has a will of iron and it is this more than anything that pulls her through the worst of times.

I've added a footnote to my concern over the term "Ripper" on this post. If it hadn't been followed directly with another photographer's name, I might not have jumped to this assumption. It just goes to show one of the pitfalls of global shop windows and even within the western culture, we still trip up over our own feet! Anyway, I hope the footnote which Mal deserves goes some way to putting things right.

I've never been to Australia nor have I ever watched Neighbours (although I do know they're just moved to Five from all the adverts in between NCIS and CSI) etc. I should have googled the word instead of jumping to an obviously wrong assumption. Hi Jose - I'm still not on broadband so it's not often I have time to visit other blogs and wait for the image to download, but my goodness I'm glad something made me look up my pixelpixie buddy tonight. What a stunning image. Once I get my new computer up and running properly I'll come back and see it again on a proper screen. At the moment I can't even see the full image all at once, which is frustrating when it's such a gorgeous shot.
