A lovely image Jose. Not so sure about the really dark band at the top of the frame but the sea,islands and clouds and blue sky are super. I like the composition and framing too.

I'm half way between the other commenters! I would keep the width and crop it at 4x3 ratio, but then of course it wouldn't have the signature JAS horizon ratio! A lovely, evocative image that will, I'm sure, bring back happy memories for years to come. Isn't it amazing how far towards north-north-west the sun sets in the Hebrides?

pixelpixie: I think the thing that hit me most about our time on Barra was the freedom and the space. I didn't want to comform to recognised, photographic dimensions though I have for the most part), I wanted to express to the point of exageration just what a contrast these Islands represent to the crowded sardine can of a country England is rapidly becoming. It was a breath of fresh air.

I don't really do sunsets, this was a souvenir! The sun was setting to the west, it is just the angle of the boat as it was heading out to open waters and I was at the stern..

I've had the chance to read what everybody else has said, and I'm trying to work out why I really like this picture.

I know all the 'detail' is at the very bottom but I think there's so much happening in the sky with it fading right through to a rich, deep indigo. The bright area is inviting me to look - and be able to see for ever, I think.

pixelpixie: Thanks Ellie. Although some comments elect a crop of the dark at the top, I guess I wanted it there to emphasise the setting of the sun and darkness taking over. Can't live without the sun though and it must be innate to be drawn to the sun even if it is barely there.
