Barra: A little series of images # 2|

The Cocklestrand
I had intended just one image of the cocklestrand but one by itself did not convey its magnitude. I had intended going back with the Mamiya to take some proper shots but the day I did, by the time I reached this point, the tide was fully in, none of this was visible and the drizzle was turning to heavy rain.

In the shot to the left, the land mass beyond the water is Orasaigh, the little island that could be seen across the bay in my previous post. It can be reached via a stretch of sand at low tide. In the middle shot, the orange buoy marks the extent of the airfield and beyond on the shore line, is where our cottage can be found, close to the water's edge. The shot to the right looks towards the Air Terminal but it's hardly visible in the distant blur of my image.  Where the sky is visible, just there, lies a huge stretch of dunes, separating this bay of Trãigh Mhõr (The Big Beach) and Traigh Eais, a long, long stretch of sand where the breakers crash in and the full force of the wind off the Atlantic greets you head on.
