Barra: A little series of images # 2
The Cocklestrand
I had intended just one image of the cocklestrand but one by itself did not convey its magnitude. I had intended going back with the Mamiya to take some proper shots but the day I did, by the time I reached this point, the tide was fully in, none of this was visible and the drizzle was turning to heavy rain. In the shot to the left, the land mass beyond the water is Orasaigh, the little island that could be seen across the bay in my previous post. It can be reached via a stretch of sand at low tide. In the middle shot, the orange buoy marks the extent of the airfield and beyond on the shore line, is where our cottage can be found, close to the water's edge. The shot to the right looks towards the Air Terminal but it's hardly visible in the distant blur of my image. Where the sky is visible, just there, lies a huge stretch of dunes, separating this bay of Trãigh Mhõr (The Big Beach) and Traigh Eais, a long, long stretch of sand where the breakers crash in and the full force of the wind off the Atlantic greets you head on. For a taster of what it's like to land on the beach, I found this on YouTube...

By 'eck, you had grim light to work with, but I'm sure the magic of the island still got to you!
The YouTube link is great- very nostalgic for me!
Wow... a sea of shells. I have never seen anything like this. Thanks for sharing this.
Oh, how I would like to visit this beach! Thanks for the great shots and commentary. Now to Youtube.
Nice photomontage. Is it your dog on the middle one ?
great montage
I and 3 other friends had a 2 week cycling trip, starting at Oban, up through Barra, Harris and Lewis then back through skye. I remember seeing planes land on the beach at Barra, incredible site. cool montage. mal
What a beautiful and amazing triptych! Well done you! (:o)
Rosalyn stole my line
Very beautiful triptych.
You're right, one image wouldn't do it. Glad you came up with a tryptich idea.
Gonna check your link at night, and do some googling, as I have no idea where you are. Z
I have never seen so many shells in one place! Nice capture!
Thats a lot of shells Jose!
I'd have a wonderful time rummaging amongst those shells, hoping to find something that isn't a cockle. It's an amazing sight - and a neat link too, looks a scarey place to land
Your magic is going strong, Jose. I love these pictures.
Wow, cngratulations, you've found paradise and captured it, beautiful triptych, really really LIKEY
What an interesting presentation... I like it... so creative.
What a great triptych, and we think we have cockles in Morecambe bay.
